Building Forever TOGETHER

The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation was established by a group of caring community volunteers, who wanted to make a difference in our region today and into perpetuity.

Many individuals and organizations have played key roles in our development over the past several years and we wish to recognize their outstanding contributions.

We acknowledge the efforts of the Community Foundation Steering Committee in developing our terms of reference in 2004.

The City of Kenora

The City of Kenora supported the establishment of our Community Foundation with an inaugural gift of $280,000 to the Community Endowment Fund in 2005.  We are indebted to the City of Kenora for launching our Community Foundation and for providing yearly financial support of $25,000 since 2005.

The Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls

The Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls has provided yearly operating dollars to the Community Foundation since 2005.  They have also been the recipients of several community grants and are seeking ways to build endowments in the area.  Their support has been greatly appreciated.

Copperfin Credit Union

Copperfin Credit Union has been our lead operating sponsor since inception.  They provide our complete office environment free of charge, in addition to providing sponsorships to our yearly charity fundraising events, donating to our endowment funds, and contributing over $8,000 in staff payroll deductions since 2004.

Ted Szajewski

Ted Szajewski played an important role in promoting the establishment of a Community Foundation in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region.  He understood the building of permanent endowment funds and the concept of using the revenue from the investments to support local charities.  Ted has stayed active in the Community Foundation movement by chairing and serving on the Dragon Boat Festival Committee.  He remains one of our strongest supporters and best ambassadors.

Lorne Temple

On November 18, 2009 the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation bestowed the title of Director Emeritus on Mr. Lorne Temple. Establishing a Community Foundation in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods has been Lorne’s dream and passion for over a dozen years.  He has worked tirelessly to build partnerships and connections favorable to the growth of our young foundation.

He was our inaugural president, in addition to serving as vice- president, treasurer, chairman of the Marketing Committee and was instrumental in securing the Kenora Dragon Boat as one of our major fundraising events.  He has made countless presentations on our behalf and recruited dozens of donors and volunteers.

Lorne has set the bar very high for our directors and volunteers.  He has made a real difference to his community and certainly exemplifies our mission statement of improving community living and the quality of life for citizens and visitors to the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region.
