New Resource Helps Community Foundation Build Sustainability
$11,800 OTF Grant Invests in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation

On Monday, MPP for Kenora-Rainy River, Sarah Campbell, joined members of the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation and the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to celebrate some fantastic news. This past October, the Community Foundation was awarded an $11,800 grant from OTF to update and upgrade their IT resources to improve their programs and services for all members of the community. Joining MPP Campbell to celebrate with the community was the Community Foundation Board of Directors, including President Don Parfitt and Treasurer Diane Pochailo, as well as OTF representative Len Compton.

ABOUT

Established in 2004 as a registered charity, the Community Foundation is dedicated to helping improve community living and the quality of life for citizens and visitors to the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region. The Community Foundation aims to strengthen the communities served by continuously striving toward three key objectives:

- promoting endowment building and personalized donor service
- developing broad and effective grant making
- encouraging community leadership

The catchment area includes the City of Kenora and the neighbouring communities of Redditt, Minaki, Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, the First Nations Territories and the unincorporated territories surrounding Lake of the Woods. Thanks to the generosity of many donors, the Community Foundation has built endowment funds of $2.5 million and has granted $854, 000 to over fifty local charities in the region.

Love for music and art lives on through John Maunder Memorial Fund

This past month, The John Maunder Endowment Fund in Support of Music and the Performing Arts was established. Mr. Maunder was a life long supporter of the music and theatrical scene in the Kenora region. His family ensured that his love of the arts will live out through grants from his endowment fund.

Our 2011 fall granting ceremony was a fantastic evening. Keynote speaker and Copperfin Credit Union CEO Dennis Alvestad presented a great speech that was both humorous and emotional. The grant recipients all had a chance to speak and shared some wonderful stories and words of appreciation towards the donors and the foundation.
