15TH Annual Festival of Trees Annual Fundraiser for the Kenora & Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation

Kenora – The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation (KLWCF) is gearing up for its major fundraiser of the year. “We are thrilled to be celebrating our 15th Festival of Trees at the Lake of the Woods Museum this year. The Lake of the Woods Museum is where the very first Festival of Trees was held” said event co-chairs, Patti Edie and Allyson Pele. “It feels right that we should return to the Museum to celebrate 15 years of fundraising for the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation”.

The 15th Annual Festival of Trees Charity Fundraiser will be held on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1, 2018. The event will begin on Friday with “An Enchanted Christmas Gala” at 7:00 p.m. and continue on Saturday with Community Day from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and Christmas Tea from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

“We will have a combination of live and silent auctions at the “An Enchanted Christmas” Gala, said Allyson Pele. “We will have beautifully decorated trees, local artwork, including silent auction items. There is something for everyone’s bidding pleasure”, said Patti Edie.

This year’s event is presented by Platinum Sponsor, Northern Harbour, and Gold Sponsor’s Copperfin Credit Union. 89.5 The Lake – CJRL FM, and Westland Insurance. Festival of Trees typically attracts hundreds of guests over the two days. Since 2004, the event has raised more than $380,000 for the Community Foundation. Tickets are available at the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Community Foundation office, Lake of the Woods Museum, Abundance and Hoolio and Goober. Tickets for both the Gala and the Community Day are on sale now.

Community Day will feature “Photos with Santa” and an array of musical talent that will appeal to guests of all ages. “Everyone, including families, seniors and youth, are encouraged to come in and view the beautiful trees, listen to the entertainment and enjoy hot apple cider and cookies.”, says event co-chair, Allyson Pele. “Don’t miss having your photo taken with Santa.” she added. “The Christmas Tea is always a favorite of the Festival of Trees. The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is a volunteer driven, public foundation, which accepts donations and builds on endowment funds – creating a nest egg that will always be there for the community. The investment income earned on the funds is granted to local registered charities that enhance the quality of life, in line with the donor’s wishes. Our catchment area includes the City of Kenora and the neighbouring communities of Reddit, Minaki, and Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls, First Nations communities and the unincorporated territories surrounding Lake of the Woods. Since 2004, thanks to our generous donors, the Community Foundation holds $4.7 million in endowed funds, with total assets at $5.2 million. Over $2 million has been granted to over fifty different local charities.
