2017/2018 Youth in Philanthropy Launches at Thomas Aquinas High School

2017/2018 St. Thomas Aquinas Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) participants gathered on Oct. 17th 2017 to formally launch their year. A total of 14 students will be participating in the upcoming learning experience.

The program is led by the Community Foundation and is sponsored for its 12th year by the Copperfin Credit Union. Invited guests included Dennis Alvestad, CEO of Copperfin, and Patti Edie, Corporate Secretary. Vicky Donath, Producer Community Access Shaw Communications, was also present to record the launch.

The students learned about the concept of philanthropy, the history of the Community Foundation in Kenora, as well as the importance of the program in supporting charities in our region. Since 2006, groups at Beaver Brae and St. Thomas Aquinas, have distributed over $54,000 as grants to the charitable sector in our region.
