Annual 10 Hour Giving Challenge Recognizes Donor, Recipients and Volunteers

For Immediate Release – Kenora – April 29, 2016 After two years of meeting with great success, The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation will again be hosting their 3rd Annual 10 Hour Giving Challenge on Friday, May 27, with the goal of raising $10,000, in support of their endowment funds. The event will run for ten hours and will begin at 10:00 am in the lobby of Copperfin Credit Union. The final three hours of the Challenge, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, will be held at the Lake of the Woods Brewing Company. The event will again be broadcast live by 89.5 The Lake and will feature the voices of donors, recipients and volunteers on the impact of Building Forever Together. Donations will be accepted in person, by phone or through their web site at www. klwcf.ca. Contributions of $10 and greater will receive a charitable tax receipt. Gifts celebrating the event will also be accepted after the date. Since 2004, $1.7 million has been distributed as grants, to the LOW Region’s charitable sector, with a total of $4.6 million held as net assets. Every contribution is a lasting gift to the LOW Region, as the yearly earnings from the endowment funds will be distributed as grants to a wide range of charitable groups. Groups, businesses, schools, sports teams, clubs and individuals are also encouraged to get involved, by challenging others into raising the most money before the event.

“We are very grateful to our partners at 89.5 The Lake, Copperfin Credit Union and Lake of the Woods Brewing Company for making this event possible for the community”, said Darlene MacGillivray, Executive Director. “Gifts can be made to any of our existing endowment funds or family endowment funds, including Agency Endowment Funds: Kenora Public Library, Handi Transit, Minto Parent Child Resource Centre, Special Olympics, Kenora Association for Community Living, PUFF, FIREFLY, TRIPLE PLAY, Women’s Shelter Saakaate House and Pinecrest Home for the Aged. Contributions can also be made in memory of a loved one”, she added.

The Community Foundation’s mission is to help improve community living and the quality for residents and visitors to the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region. Because we support all types of charities – not just one sector or issue – we are well positioned to bring diverse voices together to address local issues. Together we build networks, we collaborate, we build community: Building Forever Together.
