Community Foundation Recognizes the Generosity of Jamie Bruce

For Immediate Release – Kenora – September 18, 2017 The Community Foundation is taking this opportunity to say a sincere thank you to Jamie Bruce of Vancouver, BC for the gift of a 2017 Polaris RZR. Mr. Bruce was the winner of the Q104 summer draw for the RZR and immediately gifted it to the Community Foundation. “I became a lake resident of the Kenora region over 60 years ago while I was still a child and I have enjoyed spending as much time as possible here during the summer months,” said Mr. Bruce. “I understand that this organization supports the entire needs of the community and this is my opportunity to provide assistance to them.” He became aware of the work of the Community Foundation through their booth at the weekly Matiowski Farmers’ Market. WSL then stepped up and sold the RZR for the Community Foundation, to Jim Engel of Keewatin.

“We are very grateful for the generosity of Jamie Bruce in making this gift to the Community Foundation,” said Darlene MacGillivray, Executive Director. “The mission of the Community Foundation is to improve community living and the quality of life for year round residents, summer residents, as well as visitors to the region. This gift may serve as an inspiration for others to consider supporting the needs of their summer communities. We also appreciate the expertise of WSL in selling the vehicle for us,” added MacGillivray.

Since 2004, through the generosity of our donors, the Community Foundation has provided over $2 million in grants to charitable organizations in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods region. In addition, our endowment funds have surpassed $4.5 million. Because the community foundation supports all kinds of charities – not just one sector or issue area – we are well positioned to bring diverse voices together to address local issues. Together we build networks, we collaborate; we build community: building together forever.
