Community Foundation Week in Kenora 2017

Community Foundation Week: October 30th – November 3rd, 2017

Recognizing the Impact of Community Foundations

The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Community Foundation Week will be running from Monday October 30th to November 5th, 2017 in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region. Community Foundation Week is a great opportunity to highlight the critical role of community philanthropy in improving community living and quality of life in our region.

“We have some exciting events this year, including our Canada 150 Fall Granting Ceremony on Wednesday, where we will be awarding our Smart and Caring Community Volunteer Award, and Random Act of Kindness Day on Friday”, says Executive Director, Darlene MacGillivray.

The Kenora Community Foundation is part of a national network for Canada’s 191 community foundations. Together, we help Canadians invest in making our communities better places to live, work, and play. We contribute time, leadership and financial support to local initiatives, helping people give back where their communities need it most. With in-depth knowledge of local priorities, we direct grants, expertise, leadership, and other investments towards everything from shelter, education, care for those in need, arts, environment, animal welfare, and recreation.

The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation accepts donations and builds endowment funds – creating a nest egg that will always be there for the community. The investment income earned on the funds is granted to local registered charities that enhance quality of life, in line with the donor’s wishes. Since 2004, the Community Foundation has granted over $2 million to over fifty different local charities and has endowment funds totalling $4.5 million.
