Random Act of Kindness Day®- November 4, 2016 – How will you celebrate?

November 4, 2016

Kindness inspires Kindness!

The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is pleased to present our 6th Annual Random Act of Kindness Day, designed to give everyone an opportunity to do nice things for those around them. “We live in an amazing community where kindness happens every day. Let’s take moment to not only recognize when someone does something nice for us, but to also do something nice in return,” says Darlene MacGillivray, Executive Director of the Community Foundation. “In past five years, we have had over 20 different groups participating on the day. This year, we are hoping to surpass that total”, Parfitt says.

Since 2011, Random Act of Kindness Day® has been promoted in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region by the Community Foundation to assist in reinforcing our vision of building a better community and to encourage the ‘pay it forward’ philosophy. The premise behind the day is to celebrate and perform kind acts. Citizens will be invited to hand out printed cards that say “You’ve been touched by a RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS.”

Starting this week, small cards will be circulated throughout the community. The cards will encourage the cardholder to perform a simple act of kindness for someone – a neighbour, a friend, a co-worker, or someone they don’t even know – and hand the card over to that person – encouraging him/her to do the same. There are many different types of actions that people can use as their kind act – buy someone a coffee, congratulate someone on a job well done, act as a sounding board for another, even something as simple as holding open a door for someone with their hands full – each act provides us with an opportunity to connect with a member of our community. Random Act of Kindness Day® Cards are available by calling our office at 467-4427.

The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is a volunteer driven, public foundation, which accepts donations and builds endowment funds – creating a nest egg that will always be there for the community. The investment income earned on the funds is granted to local registered charities that enhance the quality of life, in line with the donors’

wishes. Our catchment area includes the City of Kenora and the neighbouring communities of Reddit, Minaki, Sioux Narrows- Nestor Falls, the First Nations Territories and the unincorporated territories surrounding Lake of the Woods. Since 2004, thanks to our generous donors, $4.2 million has been contributed to our endowment funds and $1.7 Million has been granted to over fifty different local charities.

Because the Community Foundation supports all kinds of charities – not just one sector or issue area – we are well positioned to bring diverse voices together to address local issues. Together we build networks, we collaborate; we build community: Building Forever Together.
