14th Annual Festival of Trees Charity Fundraiser Comes Home to Celebrate “A Kenora Christmas”
For Immediate Release – Kenora – September 21, 2017 The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is gearing up for its major fundraiser of the year. “We are welcoming everyone to join us at Seven Generations Manidoo Baawaatig Event Centre.”, said event co-chairs, Lindsay Wenaas and Allyson Pele. The 14th Annual Festival of Trees Charity Fundraiser will be held on Friday and Saturday, December 1 and 2, 2017. The year’s theme is “A Kenora Christmas”. Christmas in Kenora is special; friends and family who have moved away, find their way home and celebrate the holiday in ways that can only be done here; the Main Street tree lighting, Christmas morning skates on the lake, the Christmas Eve ice candle ceremony, and many more things that make Kenora Christmases unique.”, they stated.
The event will begin with a Holiday Gala at 7:00 pm on Friday night and conclude with Community Day from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm on Saturday. “We have a combination of live and silent auctions at the Holiday Gala, featuring decorated trees and smaller items like: centre pieces, gift baskets and wreaths. There will be items available for everyone’s bidding pleasure.”, said Wenass. “Photos with Santa”, for the young and the young at heart will return again on Community Day, as will the Seniors’ Tea, held on Community Day, between 1:00 – 3:00 pm.
The event typically attracts over five hundred guests. Since 2004, the Festival has raised more than $335,000 for the Community Foundation. Tickets are available online at www.klwcf.ca and also by calling the office at 467-4427.
Community Day will feature an array of musical talent that will appeal to guests of all ages. “Everyone, including families, seniors and youth, are encouraged to come in and view the beautiful trees and holiday items, listen to the entertainment and enjoy hot apple cider and holiday treats.”, says event co-chair, Allyson Pele. “Don’t miss having your photo taken with Santa.”, she added.
The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is a public foundation, which accepts donations and builds endowment funds – creating a nest egg that will always be there for the community. The investment income earned on the funds is granted to local registered charities that enhance the quality of life, in line with donors’ wishes. Since 2004, the Community Foundation has granted $2 million to over fifty different local charities and has endowment funds totaling $4.5 million.
