Animal Welfare Endowment Fund Created for the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region

Kenora – February 10, 2010 The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of a $50,000 animal welfare endowment fund by Paul and Patricia Reishel. This endowment fund will support programs that work to enhance the welfare of animals in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region. Income from the fund will continue in perpetuity and be used by local registered charities and not for profits providing animal welfare services, as a source of funding for their programs. Anyone may contribute to the endowment and donations will be accepted through the Community Foundation, with tax receipts being provided for contributions greater than $10.00.

“ Mr. and Mrs. Reishel are to be commended for having the vision and generosity to establish this endowment fund,” says Community Foundation President Don Parfitt. “They realize that this fund will help support the needs of our animals now and into the future ”. “ Over the years we have seen the love and compassion that Mr. and Mrs. Reishel have for their pets. With this endowment, not only will many animals in the community now benefit from their generosity, this will give others the means to have their donations make a greater impact for animal welfare” declared Dr. Celia Christensen, owner of the Kenora Veterinary Clinic. “Kenora has always stepped forward for all types of different causes. There are some very wonderful and caring people out there” stated Lil Anderson, Author and Founder of Iggy’s Wildlife Rehab Centre.” Celine Alcock of the Cat Shelter welcomed the creation of the endowment fund, noting that local animal welfare groups will be able to use the financial support in a number of different ways.

The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is a registered charity and has gifted $547,000 to over fifty different local community groups since its inception in 2004. The Community Foundation accepts donations and builds endowment funds – creating a nest egg that will always be there for the community. The investment income earned on the funds is granted to local registered charities that enhance the quality of life in the region, in line with donors’ wishes.

Because the Community Foundation supports all kinds of charities – not just one sector or issue area – we are well positioned to bring diverse voices together to address local issues. Together we build networks; we collaborate; we build community – Building Forever …. Together.
