The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation held its granting ceremony last night giving out just over $132,000 to charitable organizations.

“This is a certainly a milestone for us, made possible by all our generous donors,” said Community Foundation President Don Parfitt. “We congratulate all the charities who are doing wonderful work in the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Region”, says Parfitt. Grants will be presented to arts and culture initiatives as well as to organizations supporting social welfare, animal welfare, health and wellness and environmental needs of the community.”

“As a new recipient, we are thrilled to be included in receiving funds towards our Community Safe Grad Event, which will be happening tomorrow night at the Kenora Rec. Centre. We are focused on keeping the graduates safe and having fun”” said Jacqueline Duhaime, volunteer with the Kenora Safe Grad Community.

Cheques were handed out to the Kenora Cat Shelter, the Public Library, Sunday Smiles and the Kenora-Rainy River Districts Child and Family Services to name a few.

“We know our mission is belonging and so we commit to bring people, all people, together in our community in spaces that are focused on welcome and possibility. We also know that our mission is social justice so we will continue to  have a historic duty to make sure the ever-changing face of inequality does not confine the dreams of the people we serves,” said Debbie Everley from the Kenora Association for Community Living. Everley accepted a cheque for $1,473 from the agency endowment fund.
