KLWCF Welcomes New Executive Director: Mustafa Karim

Appointment of New Executive Director at KLWCF

(September 20th, 2022 Kenora, Ontario): The Board of Directors and Operations team are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Mustafa Karim (Moo-sta-fa Ka-reem) as the Kenora & Lake of the Woods Community Foundation’s next Executive Director.

Mustafa has a Master’s Degree in Management from Stanford University, USA and brings over 14 years of leadership experience with development and humanitarian non-profits located in Canada and globally.

“What attracted me to KLWCF was it’s grant making charitable nature.” Says Mustafa Karim, “I’m very excited about being able to play a modest role in harnessing the generous contributions of individuals, families, and businesses to support effective non-profits addressing the myriad needs of those residing in Kenora and surrounding Community.

Mustafa was born in Mumbai, India and is a citizen of both Canada and the United States. He enjoys cooking north Indian entrees, long walks, reading, music and movies. Mustafa was interested in settling in a small remote Canadian town and after having lived and worked in some cold parts of the world, such as five years in the mountainous Pamir Region in Tajikistan, he is looking forward to all that winter has to offer in the Lake of the Woods Region. He also plans on buying a boat and learning to fish, to truly enjoy Kenora’s summers as well. Mustafa has a son who is settled in Michigan and a daughter who lives in Connecticut.

Shannon Robinson, President of the Board states “with this appointment, we’d like to say thank you to the outgoing Executive Director, Tara Douglas who brought tremendous positivity and skills to the position during her time with KLWCF. We are so pleased that Tara will continue to support the Foundation in a volunteer capacity as lead chair for the Festival of Trees which returns in December of 2022.

Please join us in welcoming Mustafa to the Kenora & Lake of the Woods area!
