Mike Richards Charity Golf Tournament Continues to Support Community Needs

For the fifth year in a row, the Mike Richards Annual Charity Golf Tournament is supporting the efforts of the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation, in helping to improve community living and the quality of life for citizens and visitors to the region. Since 2010, the event has raised $66,000 for an endowment fund benefitting local charities. Richards also added the proceeds of his local Charity Hockey Camp, which ran in Kenora from 2006 to 2010, to the Community Foundation, providing an additional $47,000. To date, this $113,000 endowment fund has provided over $8,000 in grants to local charities. Income from this fund will benefit our community forever.

“When you see an athlete of this caliber; a two time Stanley Cup winner, an Olympic Gold Medalist, a National Hockey League veteran, coming back to his home town and leading events that help to grow our community, it is truly inspiring. Mike’s events have been supporting our community since 2006 and we are deeply grateful for his leadership”, says Community Foundation president Don Parfitt. “We also thank the Golf Tournament’s presenting sponsor, The Royal Bank, all sponsors and volunteers for supporting our community”, adds Parfitt.

The Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation is a volunteer driven, public foundation, which accepts donations and builds endowment funds, creating a nest egg that will always be there for the community. The investment income earned on the funds is granted to local registered charities that enhance the quality of life, in line with the donors’ wishes. Through the generosity of donors like the Mike Richards Charity Golf Tournament, the Kenora and Lake of the Woods Regional Community Foundation has provided $1,300,000 in grants to over fifty charitable organizations. The Community Foundation supports all kinds of charities, not just one sector; we are well positioned to bring diverse voices together to address local issues. Together we build networks, we collaborate; we build community: Building Forever Together.
