Summer Granting Ceremony Distributes over $132,000

The June Granting Ceremony has come to a close as $132,000 in grants was distributed Wednesday night. The evening featured tributes and thanks to longtime Community Foundation Directors Randy Seller and Marie Seymour, who will be retiring after more than 20 combined years with the Foundation. The Keewatin Summer Splash group was also thanked for their tremendous efforts in hosting the Canada Day festivities over the past several years. Grant recipients were called upon stage, presenting a brief thank you before explaining what they were planning on doing with their received funds.

“As a new recipient, we are thrilled to be included in receiving funds towards our Community Safe Grad Event, which will be happening tomorrow night at the Kenora Rec. Centre. We are focused on keeping the graduates safe and having fun”, says Jacqueline Duhaime, volunteer with the Kenora Safe Grad Community.

“ We are looking forward to running our high school breakfast program starting this fall in partnership with the Salvation Army and now the Community Foundation”, says program volunteer Mary Candline.

The event also featured a number of shared tears, as emotional stories were told by the multiple grant recipients. This showed why Kenora is such a great place to live, and what a strong and passionate community we have become.

Building Forever Together.

The Granting Ceremony was held in the Rosewood Room at the Best Western Lakeside Inn.
